In 1985, the physicians of Eye Health Services pioneered the development of the first ophthalmology ambulatory surgery center in Massachusetts – New England Eye Surgical Center (NEE), located on Main Street in Weymouth, MA. NEE was also the first ophthalmic surgery center in New England to be Medicare certified.
Since its inception, NEE has performed over 100,000 surgical procedures. Additionally, the center is accredited by the Accreditation Association in Ambulatory Health Care.
Staffed by the ophthalmologists of EHS, anesthesia, nursing team and reception staff, NEE offers patients a warm, friendly and comfortable environment in which to have all types of eye surgical procedures, from minor to the most complex.
All surgery is done on a same-day, out patient basis and every effort is made to ensure each patient’s comfort and convenience. Some of the most frequently performed procedures at NEE include:
- Cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation including the new multifocal implants
- Cornea transplants
- Glaucoma filtering procedures
- Laser surgery for treatment of glaucoma, retina and diabetes
All appointments for surgical procedures are coordinated by the EHS treating physician. New England Eye Surgical Center provides services Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
